Congratulations, you're expecting! If you're like most excited mothers and fathers to be, you may have lots of nursery ideas floating around in your head.
What you may not be expecting is the work in designing the perfect nursery for your new baby. Safety considerations are key in planning for your new arrival, but don’t fear! You should not have to sacrifice safety for style in your baby nursery.
Color Scheme
The nursery decorating is in your hands now, but one day this room will uniquely your child's. Many parents choose paint color according to the gender of the baby: blue for a boy, pink for a girl. Design experts suggest you pick a decorating scheme that will be as relevant and appealing at birth as during grade school. Sticking with gender-neutral tones may create this desired effect.
Baby Nursery Furniture
In choosing the right baby nursery furniture for you and your new arrival, it's important to pick pieces that will work across time. Cribs are important at birth, but beds are also a good idea. Having a bed in the room allows for more flexibility when your baby grows out of his or her crib, but also a place where mom and dad can lay their heads in between 2am bottle feedings.
Other baby nursery furniture to think about:
- Changing table:
Try to find a changing table that converts to a bureau so that this piece of furniture has a dual use once your baby outgrows diapers.
- Rocking/Nursing Chair:
A serene place to sit that can one day be sentimental for your baby.
- Armoire for clothes:
Baby clothes are pretty space-efficient, but as your baby grows, it's important to have ample space for "big boy" and "big girl" clothes.
- Toy chest:
Never underestimate the importance of extra storage!
- Sentimental items:
Stuffed animals, special blankets, or keepsakes made for your baby will add that extra special touch to the perfect baby nursery.
And when the big day comes, the baby nursery will be ready for your little one! |
